Breech deliveries are supported at The Ottawa Hospital as long as certain criteria are met and labour progresses adequately and the physician on call is comfortable with a breech delivery. The majority of physicians including Dr. Vassiliou are comfortable with proceeding with a breech delivery. If the physician is not then a back up system has been set in place to try and find a physician that is and can deliver the baby in a breech position. This is however not guaranteed due to circumstances beyond our control.

First if the baby is in a breech position Dr. Vassiliou will likely if all criteria are met recommend a External Cephalic Version (ECV) to try and turn the baby from breech to a head down position. Please click here for further information on ECV.
